Chair's Message

Accounting Dept. Chair

Welcome to the UNA Department of Accounting and Business Law! Accounting is the gateway to success in many diverse areas of business. All companies and organizations need and value the business and financial knowledge, analytical skills, decision-making ability, and integrity of professionals with an accounting background. So whether you want to start your own business, manage a manufacturing company or a rock band, or work in public or private accounting, the UNA Professional Accounting program will provide the tools necessary for success.

As a Professional Accounting major, you will have the opportunity to interact with our outstanding faculty, including the Raburn Eminent Scholar of Accounting and the LaGrange Eminent Scholar of Business Valuation. UNA's contemporary accounting curriculum encompasses the broad areas of accounting information systems, financial accounting, managerial accounting, tax accounting, and auditing. Depending on your interests, you may choose to study governmental accounting, financial statement analysis, or advanced cost accounting. The Department offers business law classes to meet the needs of entrepreneurs and CPA exam candidates. Accounting internships are often available for eligible senior students. Each year during the Accounting Awards Banquet, scholarships are awarded to accounting majors by accounting firms, industries, accounting alumni, the Alabama Society of CPAs and the Muscle Shoals Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.

In addition to the undergraduate degree in accounting, UNA offers a MBA with a concentration in Accounting. This graduate program includes the remaining courses required to take the CPA exam and an elective course to prepare students for entry into the rapidly growing business valuation profession.

If you want to invest in yourself and prepare for the future, accounting is the major for you! For more information, visit the website StartHereGoPlaces.com or contact the Department of Accounting and Business Law.
