FLORENCE, AL – The University of North Alabama is celebrating America’s 250th with campus displays of patriotic flags and red, white, and blue bunting as well as a special exhibit on the story of America at Collier Library.

“UNA has a deep history in the state of Alabama, and it’s fitting that we would share in this unique moment as part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding,” said Dr. Ken Kitts, UNA’s President. “Our beautiful and historic campus provided an exceptional backdrop for the many patriotic displays making UNA red, white, and blue as part of this Independence Day. A special thanks to Facilities for their work on our grounds as well as those in Collier Library or curating this exhibit.”

America 250: A Quarter Millennium of the American Experience is on display throughout the month of August in Collier Library. Individuals can discover America’s story through government documents, maps, reports, laws, photographs, and statistics. The display and accompanying guide will help visitors find online resources and library materials to research information about the U.S.A. and its history as a nation.

The many patriotic displays on campus make for an outstanding opportunity to tour UNA on foot and take in the historic buildings and facilities as the University prepares to celebrate its Bicentennial.

Where to find the patriotic displays on campus:

  • The Memorial Amphitheatre,
  • The Computing Science and Mathematics Building,
  • The Guillot University Center,
  • Rogers Hall, and
  • Norton Auditorium.
